Freeze Drying: Pet Food Preservation

Understanding Freeze Drying

Freeze drying is an advanced preservation method which involves freezing the product, lowering pressure, then removing ice by sublimation. The process of removing ice by sublimation includes a direct transition from a solid to a gas without passing through the liquid state. This technique is incredibly effective in preserving the nutritional integrity of food, making it an excellent choice for pet food preservation.

Key Benefits of Freeze Drying

  1. Minimal Nutritional Damage: Unlike other preservation methods that may degrade nutrients, freeze drying causes minimal damage to the nutritional content of food. This ensures that pets receive the essential nutrients they need for optimal health. Freeze Dried products typically retain 97% of the nutritional value and food maintains almost identical appearance and flavor.
  2. Remarkable Shelf Life: Freeze-dried foods boast an impressive shelf life, making them ideal for long-term storage. This stability is particularly beneficial for pet owners who want to stock up on food without worrying about spoilage. Perfect for emergency situations such as power outages or for taking on road trips!
  3. Simplified Shipping: The lightweight and shelf stable nature of freeze-dried foods makes shipping much more manageable and cost-effective. Our freeze-dried products are shipped for a flat rate of $11.50 when purchased separately from frozen items, with no minimum or maximum quantity required. This also applies to our: Treats, Supplements, Bedding, Essential Oils, and Toys.

The Importance of Rehydration

Rehydration is a critical step before feeding freeze-dried foods. Remember, water is essential for transporting nutrition throughout the body. When rehydrated, freeze-dried pet food returns to its original texture and nutritional profile, providing pets with a fresh and wholesome meal. This aspect is crucial, as it ensures that pets receive the full benefits of the nutrients contained within the food.

Supplemental or Intermittent Feeding

Given our products are labeled for supplemental or intermittent feeding, seeking nutritional advice from a feline and canine expert could be beneficial.

Specifically for cats and ferrets, we suggest incorporating a few essential supplements alongside our Freeze Dried Meat, Bones, and Organs. We offer the Alnutrin supplement for our bone-in Freeze Dried offerings. Additionally, cats should receive fish oil supplements to ensure they get adequate omega-3 fatty acids.
