    Cat LOVES mutton

By Kristine on May 2, 2024

I knew already that my cat loves lamb b/c I tried the stew meat from the grocery store. This was an opportunity to try mutton along with all the organs. She gobbled it up.

    Not bad

By Kassandra on April 9, 2022

It has a very high percentage of bone which is disappointing. Otherwise seems to be popular, just watch out for chalky poops when feeding.

Hare Today Response:
? Meat, bone, and organ (MBO) ratios can be found within our product descriptions and our Ground Mutton/Bones/Organs has a 73% Meat / 17% Bone / 10% Organ ratio. Balance MBO ratios using our Raw Food Ratio Calculator here: https://hare-today.com/raw_food_ratio_calculator.

    Not a Fan At All

By Betty on December 4, 2021

We bought this to have something easier and cheaper than buying the Greenwise Lamb Chops for our Cat but he turned his nose up at it as soon as we tried to get him to eat it.

Hare Today Response:
? Some cats will eat red meats, but others simply will not tolerate it. If you chose this product for your cat, start with a small amount and introduce slowly.

    Outstanding quality.

By Wanda on April 3, 2020

The ground mutton smells really nice and although my dog had never tried mutton before she enjoyed it very much.

    There’s “mutton” to complain about!

By Olivia on March 30, 2020

Correction: nothing to complain about ;)

Incredible whole ground! A go-to product that is great for beginners and simple meals that require less work !!

    FINICKY 16-YEAR-OLD KITTY LOVES IT

By GINNY on July 13, 2019

I purchased only one pound of this to try on my 16-year-old kitty who is pretty much set in her ways and can tell me in just one sniff if she'll want what's in her bowl (doesn't matter if it's an old fave, or something new). I didn't think she'd go for this, but whenever I put a bowl of the ground mutton down, she gobbles it up, leaving only a few crumbs. I'm buying more!

    Big Hit

By Anessa on April 16, 2019

My shepherd, is very picky and will skip meals regularly. She's very active so it's difficult to put any weight on her. I decided to try the 5lb chub of mutton for her since she likes the mutton bones so much. It was a hit! She attacked her food bowl, haven't seen enthusiasm like that in a while!

    Very nice product.

By Renee on November 10, 2018

I like feeding ground mutton as a protein variety. Usually, I feed proteins with lower fat and this product helps to balance his diet with a higher fat content. He's a lean machine which I like to keep him that way. But I do have to make sure he gets some fat in his diet. Thanks for this product.

    Another big hit!

By Christy on August 22, 2018

I wasn't sure about mutton, having never tried it before, but it was scarfed down just like every other protein! The chub log is well sealed and makes things easy to store/portion. I thaw and refreeze it in meal-sized portions. It has a light gamey smell, but looks fresh--probably just the way mutton is.

    Thrilled!!!

By Suzanne on May 18, 2018

I am thrilled that all 3 cats, ages 7 months to 18 years dug right into their ground mutton which I mixed with some of the ground turkey organs for balance. This will make a wonderful addition to the rotating menu. I am so thankful I found Hare Today!

    Something different

By Destiny on May 13, 2018

None of my pets have ever tried this before, but they all loved it and begged for more!

A hit with my picky boy!

By Claire on April 8, 2018

I have two cats, one will eat anything you put in front of him (the easy child) and the other is very particular - or as we like to say, has a refined palate. We ordered one pound of the ground mutton to give the easy eater a new protein, assuming my picky one would turn his nose up. But SURPRISE- as soon as he smelled the mutton he was in tummy heaven! As always from Hare Today, outstanding quality and freshness.

    She loves it!

By Esther on October 12, 2017

My dog is not a picky eater. She loves everything I get her from HT, and the ground mutton was no exception.
The ground mutton was on sale two months ago so I thought I would treat my dog with something more decadent. :)
Because of the higher fat content, I mixed a pound of the ground mutton with three pounds of a leaner protein, like turkey, and portioned out each serving per meal. It was a hit! Great quality, fresh product. Thanks!

    Cats loved this

By Lisa on July 10, 2017

All but one of my cats loved the fine ground mutton but she did try it and was curious, so maybe in time. My other cats ask for seconds with this. I was concerned it would have large bone fragments but it was fine ground enough. I was also concerned this would not be great for them since it is not a natural small prey animal. But they really like it. I have seen no adverse reactions to them eating this protein either. I will be ordering more to rotate in their diet.

    Nice Blend

By Sarah on June 23, 2017

I ordered this ground mutton for the first time on my last order. I really like the blend of organ meats included with this one - my dogs loved it as well! We will reorder this product again soon; quality of the ground meat is outstanding!

    Good quality

By Tara on June 21, 2017

There is no doubt that this is quality meat. This tends to be a bit drier than some of the other ground. It's not my dogs favorite but they will still eat it.

    Fatty, in a Good Way

By Angela M on February 8, 2017

A nice change of pace for the felines and fairly well liked. Also makes a nice "soup" when mixed with some warm water, melting some of the fat for a delish broth with the dark red meat. Not every cat's cup of tea as some prefer leaner things.

    Good but not his favorite

By Nicole on January 31, 2017

Not sure why as my kitty loves Rad Cat lamb like nobody's business. As I am not a lamb, sheep or mutton expert, I've no real cause except to say maybe it's too fatty?
This is not fine ground as I expect it isn't easily done, so.be prepared for globules. He did eat it, which is fantastic but I have a feeling that HT does a great job of sourcing fresh meat. My kitty's preference is just more towards the other meats like rabbit which he now knows is frozen in abundance in my fridge.
This thawed slower than most of the other meats so it can be last for you if you are buying it with rabbit or chicken or turkey, during the freezer prep with Alnutrin or your mix.

    Mutton Success

By Kolby on November 14, 2016

My dog loves the ground mutton. She eagerly eats it and experiences no digestive upset. I appreciate that this is considered a complete grind with meat, bone, and organs. Hare Today's variety of protein sources enables me to feed my dog raw without the worry of doing something incorrectly were I to prepare her food myself. I am grateful that Hare Today's ground products are all high quality and that nothing is added to them.

    Excellent product

By Susan on September 5, 2016

I'm feeding a growing English mastiff puppy so appreciate the higher calorie options. Arrived on time, well packaged and still frozen. Will be making this a regular part of their diet

    8 paws up!

By Wendy on August 6, 2016

All 4 of our furbabies love the mutton! Two kitties and two dogs, each give a "two paws up" for this deliciousness. There is never even a smear left in the bowls, they always make sure to double check the other's bowl to ensure it was licked as clean as possible!

    All 4 cats like it!

By Catherine on June 26, 2016

I wanted to try something besides rabbit which everybody here just loves. So I read the reviews about the mutton and decided to try the finely ground. Even my pickiest eater likes it. I'm glad to have found something else they like as it has been difficult to provide a variety to my four rather picky kitties who also have chicken allergies. Thank you Hare Today! I will be ordering the mutton again.

    Good for my active pooch

By Julie on June 19, 2016

My dog is pretty active, so this is a great protein for helping her to keep her weight on. She is a little picky at times, but has never turned her muzzle from this meal!

    great for high energy dog

By Alexander on June 5, 2016

Mutton is high in fat and this is one of my favorite as well as my beloved dog's favorite meal options. I know that the sheep is helping to keep fat on her bones and fuel the endless energy!

My Dogs absolutely LOVE this stuff

By Brad on February 23, 2016

I have an Olde English Buldogge and a Boerboel. Both have been raw fed Hare Today since they were 8 weeks old. They both love this product and the quality shows in their coats as well as their health.

    Great for variety!

By Lisa on February 21, 2016

My dogs adored their ground mutton! The quality was great and I love the convenience.

    Chihuahua Approved

By Joni on February 19, 2016

I got this not only for more protein variety but more so for my 2 male chihuahuas that are rather petite and if I don't keep a careful eye on them they can loose weight. To do this I weigh my dogs weekly to make sure they are on the right track and if need to I adjust food amounts up or down. My male chihuahuas are full of energy so burn off food quickly. They have a very lean and healthy body as is, but i want to maintain it. Mutton is a good solution to ensure they don't loose too much weight, as chihuahuas that would not be good. They of course said they love mutton too :-)

    Ground Mutton

By Haley on January 29, 2016

We bought this ground mutton to offset all of the lean meats we feed. Mutton is so tasty for our boys, they love it! I also like the consistency of this grind, its very easy to work with and even though mutton is quite fatty, the grind doesn't even seem like its overly fatty! Thank you for such a great grind!

    Sphynx love it

By Yee on December 15, 2015

This is a good food for Sphynxs because of the higher fat. The higher bone also helps keep this breeds stool nice and firm. Not loose or constipated.

By Lindsay on May 31, 2015

This is my animals favorite food. Get it every time and always happy.

By anna on April 30, 2015

One of my cats favorite, and at a great price! He likes the fattier meats and this is one of them.

By Renee on April 29, 2015

I used mutton for a protein variety as well. It's a product that is difficult to get in local stores - but it's available here. Mutton is an awesome product and is definitely worth it. Thanks Tracy for offering such great products and a variety of proteins. It makes it so much easier to feed raw when these ground mixes have the correct balance of muscle meat, bone, and organs. My dog is healthy and a happy camper eating raw.

By Renee on February 14, 2015

I am very pleased with this product. It definitely adds a variety of protein to my sheltie's diet. Thanks Tracy for such a wonderful product which helps keep my dog healthy! Renee & Rio

By Alyse on September 5, 2014

I ordered this for my ferrets and they were big fans. Very good consistency to keep their jaw strength up.

By Eleni on May 7, 2014

Very good quality, have been feeding this to my dog along with home cooked vegetables for a few months now, and his overall health and vigor are excellent. My only warning is that it is very hard to cut and portion out, even when slightly thawed, compared to other meat/organ/bone selections.

By anna on May 1, 2014

My sphynx loves this, it's his favorite along with salmon. I rotate this with rabbit, goat, venison and salmon. I don't think he needs to put weight on, but he is very active and lean so I think its good to add a little bit of fat to his diet, especially with as much as he enjoys it. It's also one of the more affordable options so a win-win on both accounts.

By alex on April 13, 2014

Be cautious with tender-stomached cats. Our cat, who is raw-fed due to IBD, wolfed down a \"sample\" of this mutton while I was preparing it: 5 stars for palatability and appeal! Unfortunately, it came right back up.

RESPONSE: Cats and dogs with IBD issues should have lower fat meats. Mutton is a fattier meat and states this on the product description. Cats in general will do best with rabbit, poultry, mice, and cavies where dogs typically do best on red meats as the staple in their diets.

By Jane on March 14, 2014

I am an equine and canine nutritionist so I know something about proper diet for dogs. We've been feeding our dogs raw for about 8 years now. It's been the best thing I've ever done for our dogs' health. We rarely see our vet -- because we don't have to. In theory, dogs should be able to eat big hunks of meat but I got tired of them barfing up and re-eating the big hunks. Bones are important but always problematic too. And they need organ meat -- yuck! and blood -- pretty tough to get. Until I discovered hare-today.com, we always bought human-grade meat from stores and chopped or ground it ourselves. It was still lacking in adequate bone, organs, blood. And was a huge pain in the patooties.

It's cheaper the old way -- if you just look at price per pound. But what we've found feeding raw pet food from Tracy's is that the dogs get all the animals parts they need for a balanced raw diet and we can feed them at least 15% less than before to maintain the same weight and health. With that and infrequent vet bills, price is less of an issue. And it's so fast and easy -- no more time-consuming trips to Costco or Walmart in search of meat for the dogs, no more grinding and all the messy prep and clean-up that goes with that.
I'll say more in future reviews about how good Tracy's products are if you want to feed raw in the most healthy yet easy manner.

Needless to say, mutton is really tough to find for most of us and human-grade lamb is super expensive. So we especially love to buy the mutton at hare-today. And the dogs love to eat it.

By Cindy on January 7, 2014

I bought this a few months back, on a whim, for my cats. To my surprise, is went over fabulously, up there with the rabbit fabulously. My pickiest, I won't eat today, cat thought that this was the best; got in the way of plate prep for the others and was stealing from some of the other cats in the house. I thought that this was a one time thing, you know cats, but no, this was for the duration of the 3# mix. Needless to say, it's on my list for get this next time!

By Jill on November 16, 2013

My super picky cat refused everything I gave her, chicken, fish, beef until I offered her some ground Mutton! She loved it, and it helped her put on some weight!

By Joanne on October 8, 2013

I usually feed my cats turkey and chicken and occasionally rabbit. But I want them to have red meat too. So I tried mutton. Six cats love it. One cat (Aggie) has turned her nose up several times. I've had to feed Aggie an alternate food on mutton day. Today I didn't have anything thawed so I locked her in the bathroom with her bowl. She ate it. Mutton is a winner!

By selena on July 30, 2013

Mutton is a very hard to come by meat here and its expensive when you do find it. The dogs really like it and it adds a great variety to their diet.

By Emily on June 18, 2013

My kitten LOVES this food. He gets so excited when I pull a bag from the fridge. Will definitely repurchase!

By dana ann on May 19, 2013

My Scooby loves the mutton and it always arrives fresh and frozen! Love this company! So glad your shipping is so convenient!

By Lisa on May 13, 2013

I feed my ferrets a raw diet, I was not sure if they would like the ground mutton, but decided to try one time. They really enjoy this product and now I order this for them every time. I am thrilled with the Hare Today products, and have become a loyal customer. Thank you for all that you offer for us raw feeders.

I chose the Gr. mutton, bones organs, 5 lb. to add some fat to Murphy's diet. He has been on the Rabbit for quite a while now. He loves it but he needs more fat. He is getting too thin. Now he gets both mutton and rabbit, rotated every couple of weeks. This will keep some meat on his bones and still keep him in great shape. Love the quality of Hare Today Gone Tomorrow. I was feeding him Natures Variety, and it was just not this rich red color. Very happy.

By Arleen on April 15, 2013

Wonderful food! Since changing my dogs to this raw food selection they are looking much healthier. Had taken one of my Tibbies to Dr for blood work to see why he was losing his top coat. Blood was fine. Since being on this food happy to say his coat is back and both of my dogs never looked better. Other dog was itching to the point his belly fur was gone:( Well its back now and looking great!! My dogs have always been raw fed but this has to be the best food I have had the pleasure to feed them.

By Brendan on March 19, 2013

This is by far my pets favorite meal. He absolutely loves the stuff. It is a really good sized ground too which I like. The ground bone is also a bonus because of the extra calcium i get in his diet.

By Shaneen on April 28, 2012

My dogs love the mutton from hare-today, and its perfect for helping keep the weight on 3 active border collies! Even the cat loves it!

By Elizabeth on March 18, 2012

This product is a staple of my 4 Whippet's diet. It's extremely palatable and a favorite. I've never had a "bad batch" from HT. Betty

By Nicole on February 29, 2012

Saya loves sheep she's had lamb and ewe before so thought to give mutton a try. She really loved the taste of it and having the ground stuff on hand was nice for when I needed someone to watch her, boarding and traveling. I plan get mutton again.

By Laura on February 6, 2009

For my 28 to 35 lb English Setter Tracy's Mutton is the perfect meat option to help her keep weight on. Local farms here in East TN also sell lamb through limited grocery stores but the price is so high and not in a realistic range for raw-feeding (also of course it doesn't have organ and bone). I find Tracy's price to be fair and equitable and definately worth the purchase. When I can I will be buying the 30 lb box.
Tracy's mutton is the one meat that my dogs (who have had many various protein sources) put their paws on the counter for. When I'm hacking up my 'mutton loaf', as we call the 5 lb rolls, the dogs lift their noses in the air and snif continuously. The addition of Tracy's mutton to our dogs' diet has helped keep their weight in a good range as we were struggling with them being almost too thin. I would not suggest feeding the rich mutton to a beginner raw-fed dog or to an overweight dog. As the description says - it's great for putting on weight.
Let me also add that I've shopped around and some other online raw-meat sellers take awhile to get mutton to you and I appreciate Tracy always having mutton on hand and ready to go.
