Product Weight, Packaging, and Processing Details:
• 1 lb. chub bag, FINE ground.
• FINE Ground products are finished with our ¼” grinder plate, resulting in the diameter of the bone being no larger than 1/4”, but the length can vary a bit depending on how the bone is pushed through the grinder plate.

MBO percentages are averages based on total lot production, but typically fall within a 1% variance.

Nutrition and Benefits:
• This food is low in Sodium.
• Good source of Vitamin B6 and Phosphorus, and a very good source of Protein, Niacin, Vitamin B12 and Selenium.
• High in protein, low in fat and cholesterol, and is similar to rabbit or the dark meat of chicken.

Help Tips, Reminders and Other:
• Whole Carcass fiber has shown to be beneficial in diets, but high fiber may lead to lower amounts of pancreatic enzymes. Whole Carcass ground products should be fed with a balance of dressed proteins.
• Adding fur to a carnivores raw diet can be beneficial in so many ways:
➡️ Again, it is a good source of fiber which aids the cleaning of the digestive tract.
➡️ When the digestive tract is clean, it can improve nutrient absorption and can support the immune system.
➡️ Fur can help eliminate worms and parasites.
➡️ Added fiber can help bulk stool and naturally assist in expressing anal glands.
• Before jumping into whole prey, make sure the raw diet is well established, ensuring a low pH, or highly acidic stomach which is important as digestive enzymes work best in an acidic environment. The acidic nature of the stomach helps to sterilize pathogens and bacteria and is important to break down bones.
• Guinea pigs come from South America in the Andes Mountains.
• They are called "cavies" and have been used as food for the inhabitants of South America.

Our mission includes advocating for optimal health and safe handling of raw materials. Make sure to use safe handling practices and reference our Raw Food Education pages.

Cats love it, just wish it were in stock more

By Neeraj on July 28, 2022

My cat has very sensitive food allergies and cavies are one of the few proteins he can eat without problem. He loves the stuff! Just wish they were more consistently in stock.

Hare Today response: Cavies are a great novel protein, and we are humbled to hear this product is working well with your sensitive kitty. When supply chains become challenging and pricing volatile, sourcing and product availability can become difficult, but please know that we are working hard to find and engage our local farmers and suppliers.

    Great!

By Logan on January 23, 2022

My dogs love when we throw these into the mix for some variety!

    Cats weren't fans

By Kylie on January 11, 2022

Unfortunately none of my 5 cats cared for ground cavies. No fault of the product or Hare Today. The product was high quality and fresh, I just think my cats just do no like whole carcass grinds and this had contain a good bit of fur. I tried mixing with some other batches of raw I had made and even canned food and some tuna juice but it still wasn't not enticing enough for them. At a later date I may order again and try mixing with a something like bones turkey thighs or another protein they love.

Response from Hare Today:
Don't be discouraged, cats can be stubborn, very picky and many times have strong preferences.
Tip: Warming meat a bit with a warm water bath can be helpful, make sure the meat is in a sealed contained and place the container in warm water. This brings out the natural juices of the meat and helps to entice them to eat. NEVER cook bones or microwave. Make sure the meat is fresh, cats are very particular as far as freshness goes, 1-2 days in fridge.

Hesitant At First But Now Love It!

By Charlotte on September 7, 2020

I'm always looking for new protein to add to my five kitties' diet. When I first tried this, it was a flop :( I almost gave them away but they ended up in the back of my freezer for several months until one day I needed it in a pinch. I was shocked...3 of the 5 now love it. Still working on the one who only eats chicken. But I'm ordering again because of the fiber content and variety. Don't give up if they don't like it at first ;)

Unfortunately my cats wouldn't touch this stuff, but they are just picky!

    Disappointing

By Joe on May 14, 2020

My cats would not touch it. Def off my list!

    My Cats Happily Ate This

By autumn on January 13, 2019

My cats had no trouble at all eating this when I got it for them and treated it like the whole carcass ground rabbit. I don't recall any of them vomiting on it despite the amount of fur, they seemed to handle it just fine.

Love that this is a whole carcass grind

By Gabriela on November 30, 2018

I tried the whole prey guinea pig for my pup and she would not touch it, even after I cut it up added goat's milk and bone broth (her favorite) she still would not eat it. But when it comes to the whole carcass fine grind, she loves it and she gobbles it right up. It's an easy and great way to add fiber to her diet.

    Not a big hit.

By Cristina on November 26, 2018

My 7 month old kittens really like their raw food diet but did not seem terribly fond of the whole ground cavy. There is quite a bit of fur mixed into the meat and maybe that was off putting. They would eat about an ounce or two then leave the rest and refuse to finish it.

First time Whole Carcass Cavies - BIG HIT!

By Deborah on October 3, 2018

I thought I'd freak out when I read the description about
this containing fur but wanted to try it for my three
fur babies since they loved the green tripe.
Needless to say I will be ordering again!
Keep up the good work, Tracy/Ashlee

    Cavies love

By Cheryl on September 27, 2018

One of my female kittens has a sensitivity to chicken, so has only been eating rabbit. You suggested the ground cavies as being similar, so I bought some to try. Oh my goodness! I gave her a plate of her rabbit, and gave her brother the ground cavies to try. She ate a bit of her rabbit, then sniffed her brother's plate. The next thing I see, is her pushing her brother out of the way, to eat the cavies! I gave some to our 2 older cats, and they also licked their plates clean. I am so glad there is something else Pru can eat, (and likes) and glad there is another protein that the boys enjoy. Thanks for another great product.

    Ground Cavie

By Karla on June 24, 2018

Tried this with my dogs. They can be a bit picky. Surprisingly, they really like it. Quality is good. Shipping is very prompt.

    Our cats love this!

By Jennifer on May 20, 2018

Tried the ground whole cavies for the first time & all 3 of our cats loved it! While you can see the hairs, it does not make the overall meat fuzzy or seemingly hairy, which I was nervous about when I ordered it. The meat is very fresh and the ratio of bone works well for most cats. This will definitely be a part of my regular order from now on!

    Not a favorite

By Gina on April 27, 2018

Quality is very good. Just try to tell that to my cat. I thought sure he would like it with all the other great reviews. No fault of Hare Today's . I always feel confident trying different products from them because everything is always so clean & fresh. Even the shipping is immaculate. Very glad I found them.

    Cats love the cavies

By Megan on December 4, 2017

My cats went bonkers for the ground cavies. Has a mild rodent smell but meat is always fresh and clean looking with some hair throughout, similar to the whole carcass ground rabbit with a slightly loser/wetter consistence. One of their favorites, I use it to mix with other meats they like less to improve acceptance.

    Cavy goodness!

By Sarah on August 24, 2017

I added a pound of ground cavies on my last order since it was on sale and I needed one more pound of something to fill my box. I fed it to my dogs just this morning - they LOVED it!! Visible white hairs all throughout the meat so you know they are getting some much needed fiber. We usually buy whole carcass ground rabbit but I will be alternating in the future with the ground cavy. Very nice texture and super fresh!

    Great stuff!

By Shawni on July 7, 2017

Originally purchased this for my cat, but she is so picky it ended up going to my dog and he loved it! Kitty doesn't like to try new things but my pupper will eat anything!

The quality of the meat was great, as always.

    cravies for cavies

By tracey on June 23, 2017

my cat sea hag loves these little guys. i mix it in with rabbit or goat. whenever i'm making the food, i let them lick the bag and she has actually picked it up to carry away ! (don't worry i got it back from her)

Whole animal grind at a good price and easy to feed

By Catherine on May 29, 2017

I couldn't get my cats to eat the ground mouse or quail, and one of them often regurgitates the whole carcass rabbit (but is fine with the regular ground rabbit). Thankfully, they do very well with the cavies. I love having a whole-prey ground option for them. I've been feeding them this for years, and appreciate the consistent high quality. Thank you Tracy!

    Thankful for Variety

By Amy on May 2, 2017

I started to include cavies in our dog's diet out of curiosity. I continue to feed her cavies because she enjoys it and I enjoy adding variety to her meal rotations.

    Another Great Option

By Maureen on April 19, 2017

I just fed my 3 cats Cavies for the first time. All 3 loved it and begged for more. I thought this was less hairy than the whole ground rabbit. Lately I have been trying many new HT proteins and now, my cats have a varied rotation and I believe that helps insure their health. Thank You Tracy!

    Great whole prey!

By Destiny on April 6, 2017

While my cat doesn't seem to like the fuzziness of this product, both my dogs love it!! Easy to feed whole prey item. Will definitely be buying again!

    easy to feed!

By donna on March 26, 2017

I'm so glad I can give my dogs a variety. They know when this is in the house they go crazy!!

    Serve it in a bowl

By Angela M on February 8, 2017

So, so popular with the cats! It's wetter and looser than the whole carcass rabbit and feels hairy in your hand, but that doesn't seem to deter the cats at all. Set the bowls a ways apart, lest the greedy one snatch pawfuls from the other one's dishes!

    Tasty meal

By Pamela on January 24, 2017

2 paws up. My dog really enjoyed the cavies and savored every bit of her meal. Definitely plan on re-purchasing!

    Good stuff!

By Cristina on December 31, 2016

Great for adding variety to my sensitive Bull Terrier, Delilah's diet. She's very allergic to beef, chicken, and a few other things so I have to be careful with what she eats. She does great on this stuff and seems to tolerate it just fine.
Always fresh and clean cuts of meat!
I love the looks I get from people when I tell them what it is too.. XD

    No hesitation.

By Lesa on October 9, 2016

I'm pretty sure my cats would eat every single kind of meat from Hare Today. Their favorite is the rabbit, ground whole carcass, so I decided to give this a try. They loved it. They're very enthusiastic eaters when they're served raw meat! Apparently it doesn't matter what kind of meat, either.

    Very popular!

By April on June 5, 2016

This ground cavies is well liked by two of my cats. They all three really like the whole carcass ground rabbit, but the one cat isn't fond of the cavies. That's ok. It's good to have another protein for them. If your cat likes the whole carcass ground rabbit, they may well like the WC ground cavies.

    New Favorite!

By Jennifer on June 3, 2016

My cats just recently tried cavies for the first time! BIG hit here! All three cats thoroughly enjoyed the cavies. We'll be adding it to our rotation from now on!

    Great for variety

By Morgan on April 16, 2016

I purchased this for some variety in the type of diet - I mix rabbit and chicken and have added Cavies to the mix. Not any hairier than whole carcass rabbit in my opinion and hairballs not more frequent this time around.

Had to prevent the cats from eating through the package when it came!

    A hit

By Lisa on March 13, 2016

My cat is a big fan. I was worried about the hair but it's not too fuzzy at all!

    Cats... Fur and all

By Danielle on March 5, 2016

My three cats love this including the picky one! I was a bit skeptical with the added fur but they chow down like any other meal. Cats seem to really enjoy the cavies. Looks like I won't be getting a pet Guinea pig anytime soon.

    Hairy.....

By Teresa on November 6, 2015

So I'm not sure what I was expecting. I read the description which specified "ground WHOLE cavies" fur and all. The fur just kind of grosses me out, but my cat LOVES it. So I'll admit, I have to pull on disposable gloves when dealing with it - even if my hands don't touch it. But that's just me, and I'll do it as long as my cat, Smoke, continues to enjoy it.

The ground cavies are a MUST

By Jessica on October 5, 2015

The ground cavies are a MUST in our homemade cat food. I like to keep a variety of meats incorporated so they have a better whole prey model to eat from.
The price is fantastic and one of the more cost effective than say, mice. Even though it's whole carcass, I never have any issues with tons of fur in the mix.

By Kimberley on April 11, 2015

I gave this 5 stars, because I did not want to lower the overall rating of the product, which was high quality.
I am just beginning to transition my 6 cats (a couple that are kibble addicts) to a raw diet. The 4 that are active hunter have been fairly receptive. They have, if not devoured, at least tasted all of the meats offered so far...except for the cavies. They wouldn't even taste it. Cavies are described as "similar to rabbit and the dark meat of chicken..", so maybe that's why they don't like it, as none of them liked rabbit either.
I may introduce the cavies again at a much later time, after they have all become accustomed to a raw diet.

By GINNY on December 19, 2014

One of my 2 cats enjoys eating this while the other does not.

By Megan on December 14, 2014

My cat loves this! Always arrives frozen in great condition.

By Dunja on November 12, 2014

This was a hit in my household! Especially my most fussy cat enjoyed the cavies, very surprisingly. I will be adding more of this to their rotation! Thanks to Hare Today for providing so many choices.

By Asheen on July 6, 2014

All of my cats love these. I have to take them off of the kitchen counter while I serve them up. I would definitely buy these again. I wish they cane in larger quantities. The only problem I had was that the packaging was leaking, but most of the items in my shipment were as well so there was a lot of blood and I needed to repackage everything.

By Egor on March 31, 2014

My kitties adored this. Super fresh, as is expected of Hare-Today!

By Nichole on March 19, 2014

I wasn't sure how my cats would do with this so I was very happy to see them devour it.
