Product Details

• Raw ground whole sardines, includes head and bones.
• Wild Caught.

Product Weight, Packaging, and Processing Details

• 1 lb. chub bag, FINE ground.
• FINE Ground products are finished with our ¼” grinder plate, resulting in the diameter of the bone being no larger than 1/4”, but the length can vary a bit depending on how the bone is pushed through the grinder plate.
• Frozen in commercial freezers maintained at 0 degrees Fahrenheit or lower.

Nutrition and Benefits

• Sardines are rich in omega-3 fatty acid.
• They are also a good source of vitamin D, calcium, B12, and protein.
• How about calcium? Sardines have more bones compared to other fish. It is a soft, known bone, between the meats (small bones which we do not notice much). The number of such fine bones is 270, and it is 5 times more than horse mackerel. It has one of the richest calcium you can take.
• Because they are low in the food chain, sardines are very low in contaminants, such as mercury.

Helpful Tips and Reminders

• Whole fish can be fed with both ruminants and poultry.
• Feed 1 ounce of fish for every pound of ruminant and 4 ounces for every pound of poultry, if fish oil is not already supplemented in the diet.

Our mission includes advocating for optimal health and safe handling of raw materials. Make sure to use safe handling practices and reference our Raw Food Education pages.

    Fresh and easy

By Sarah on June 25, 2023

Cats enjoy the variety of adding fish now and again. I enjoy that this product is ground and easy to serve. It's also fresh and easy! Win-Win

    Fresh and juicy product

By chenkun on December 18, 2021

A couple of my cats seem to like it, but one of them just doesn't like it all. I guess he just wants no part of fish.

Nothing wrong with quality, but my cat won't touch it

By Maryjane on April 14, 2021

As noted, these are VERY smelly. I bought two pounds, thinking my cat would love an occasional treat (she's completely raw fed). She took a few licks, but now refuses to touch it. My daughter's dog, who usually devours anything, won't touch it either! An experiment that didn't work out.

    Good quality sardines

By Wanda on April 3, 2020

These are better than canned but my dog prefers whole sardines over ground.

    Exactly what I wanted!

By Olivia on March 30, 2020

I often was feeding sardines whole but my one dog decided to start being picky about eating them whole!

I recently found these ground sardines, and it’s great to add to meals for picky eaters! Highly recommend!

    Texture

By Brooke on November 26, 2019

My female refuses to eat whole fish; all she wants to do is roll in it

Good quality, seems like a love it or leave it

By Sam on May 7, 2019

This smells good, for sardines (I mean, it's not a comfortable smell for humans, it is clearly sardines). My two remaining girls, ages 17 and 9, would only eat it after cutting it with a 1:4 ratio with ground chicken feet. (Ground feet, they tell me, are very bland.) No idea why, as they have been fine with whole sardines before, but maybe ground is just too intense a smell. Probably great if you are making an otherwise bland ground based mix.

Smells Fishy But My Cats Enjoy It

By autumn on January 13, 2019

This grind of sardines definitely has a smell and a look to it but it's fish so that's to be expected and my cats love it. They love sardines and once mixed with the other main meat I give them they're all over it.^^

Cats refused to even look at this.

By Cristina on November 26, 2018

My two cats eat a raw diet primarily of turkey and chicken. They have occasionally enjoyed canned seafood flavors so I thought they may like the ground sardines, but not so much. They wouldn’t even go near the bowl or enter the kitchen with the ground sardines out. It is super stinky and the intense fish smell made me gag. I won’t be buying this one again.

Response from Hare Today: Fresh fish does have a stronger smell then canned. Some cats like fish, some don’t. With cats it is trial and error to see what they like.

Great product, but my cats hated it

By Kathryn on October 26, 2018

My cats usually love sardines (they go nuts over freeze dried treat sardines) but they won't touch this mixture. Not sure why, maybe they aren't as used to fish. Otherwise, it's a great quality product as always.

    Cat and dogs love it!

By Anessa on October 11, 2018

My two dogs and now cat goes nuts when they smell the ground sardines. It's great, very reasonably priced. This is actually cheaper than buying canned sardines and much better. My cat who would rather starve then try something new now goes over and tries to eat from the dogs' bowls when they get sardines. Overall, highly recommended.

    Great!!

By Chrissy on January 28, 2018

Dogs love the ground sardines!
I ran out and had to make a replacement from another brand :-( and they put veggies in their mix, its runny and it smells awful. The dogs ate it but not happily.
I will definitely make sure I don't run out of HT sardines again! Ill be making that order soon!

    Great food for new kitten

By Natalie on November 12, 2017

I add this to all the food I make for my kitten; it truly does smell awful but I like it as an alternative to adding fish oil.

    Yummy

By Renee on November 5, 2017

Rio loves the ground sardines. I put a small amount in each meal. There is a smell but not as bad as the canned cooked sardines I've used in the past. I'll be ordering more in my next order.

    Holy Shiny Coat!

By Esther on July 3, 2017

So we switched from the herring to the sardines and it's waaaay better, in that now I have strangers commenting how my dog's coat looks so shiny that she actually looks "wet." She has a wet look but there's no oily residue on her coat whatsoever. She loves the sardines on its own but I use it as a mixer in with her main course dishes. Totally worth the extra few dollars more than the herring. My dog used to suffer from dander. Whenever she would get nervous all of her dander would just rise to the top of her coat. It was quite embarrassing when people witnessed this. Especially her vet. She has ABSOLUTELY NO dander anymore!!! Move over topical shampoos, sprays an other sorts. Heal your pet's skin from the inside with natural foods.

    alas, not a hit

By Angela M on June 2, 2017

Fishy and finely ground, you'd think it would have cats swarming over it, but most of my group come from a feral background & don't seem to regard any fish as food stuff, raw or cooked; that several of them gave it a good sniffing over and even a lick is testament to it quality, though.

    A Favorite for Sure

By Kolby on September 26, 2016

I had not ever fed sardines before due to not having access to oily fish protein sources. I decided to include sardines in my first order from Hare Today to see how my dog would do with the addition of fish to her feeding rotation. She absolutely loves the days when her meals are fish. I very much appreciate the fact that I can now include sardines in her feeding rotation and that I can do so with confidence that I am giving her a balanced product.

    so stinkin'good

By Patty on February 28, 2016

I swear Kittie can smell a fish through the refrigerator door, and I am confident she's getting omega nutrients and calcium from the ground sardines. This is a great treat or an ingredient to a raw meat recipe.

    Smelly Goodness

By Joni on February 19, 2016

The only type of fish I feed my dogs is sardines and white herring because they are super low on the mercy level. Sardines are rich with omega-3's, Vitamin D, and high in calcium. These are all great things for growing puppies and adult dogs alike. Just be prepared This is SUPER SMELLY, I really think i would rather smell tripe than this but I only give fish 1X per week to add protein variety and the nutritional goodness fish offer. I usually give the whole sardines but with a new puppy I'm getting him used to raw before I give whole especially because he is a huge gulper and I had a scare with a chicken neck. It is a great constancy for this purpose.

    Great sardines!!

By Jessica on February 14, 2016

My girls absolutely love sardines!! As soon as I open the bag their eyes get bright and look like they will pop out of their heads!! I'm glad I found these sardines. I was feeding some from a can that I purchased from a grocery store but was always a bit leery of them. But the ground sardines from Hare Today Gone Tomorrow I feed with confidence!

    Not gonna lie, these smell

By Jessica on October 5, 2015

Not gonna lie, these smell like sardines. Once the cats get a whiff of me opening the package though, I have to have my husband distract them in another room while I make their food.
They come in a ground paste form and any fish bones are completely negligible because they're so small (remember, humans can eat whole sardines without issue). I love adding these because they're such an excellent source of protein and Omega-3s.

Our dogs love the sardines!
They will lick the bowl forever!

By Ruthann on May 15, 2014

Our dogs LOVE sardines.
Their bowls are so cleaned after they eat.
I know it is rich in omegas as well.

By Candace on January 13, 2014

My dogs love the sardines, I feed weekly.

By Matt on October 15, 2013

My OEB loves the sardines, but my yorkie is like the rest of the family in the fact that we hate the smell. Chloe (the OEB) gets so excited once she sees me walking up from the basement and can smell the sardines. It is either the smell or the look of disgust on my face that she knows she is getting something good to eat.

As a side note, I am glad that my OEB breeder told us about the raw diet. Our Yorkie, Bob, was sick all the time, underweight and wouldn't eat. Since finding Hare-today a few months ago, he has put on weight, his coat looks better, and he hasn't been sick. Chloe has never eaten anything besides the Raw diet and her coat is a lot better looking then a few people we know with puppies around her age. She is always hungry, but I guess that is normal for a OEB that is 4 months and already 27 pounds thanks to Hare-Today.

What a great product! My 83 lb Greyhound is sensitive to White Fish and Salmon so I have been buying cans of Sardines to add into his diet. This is so much more economical & he loves it! Along with the turkey necks, tripe, and grinds I have ordered -he is in houndie heaven. Thank you for offering such great products.

By Ruthann on March 8, 2013

I never saw our 3 scottys eat this fast.
Needless to say if any fell out of their bowls, they found it:)

By Deborah on April 12, 2012

Thank You for providing Ground Sardines! This is one of two fish types my cat can have, the other being mackerel. Locally I can only find these fish canned and as we all know the canning process severely affects the end product content.

My 8 year old cat, Vine, has a very rare type of feline cancer for which she had surgery in December 2011 to remove a tumor from her lip sadly they were not able to get it all. When my old vet suggested a second surgery to remove the rest of the tumor, plastic surgery for her lip, chemo and radiation (a 2 1/2 hour drive each way daily for a month), her fur would have fallen off on her face, and most likely I would have been tube feeding her. All of that travel, stress, and sickness sounded so cruel...all of which would have only given her an additional three months of life. That is no way to live, I would never want to put another human being through that and certainly not my sweet little girl.
I am thankful that I found a holistic vet, he switched Vine to a raw food diet and Chinese herbs. Amazingly in a couple of days she was bouncing around like a kitten (she had mainly been sleeping all day prior to the change), her fur became so soft and thick and it started to grow back on her ears.
It has been five months now and although her tumor has come back, you would never know it. She is feisty again, queen of the castle, wrangling the dogs down the hallway, running up trees, attacking leaves, and playing in the bush tops. When she is hungry she runs back and forth past me in the house until it get her a plate of Ground Sardines or Ground Rabbit. Per the holistic vets instructions I mix the raw meat with a different type of organic raw shredded fruit or vegetable each feeding (apples, carrots, broccoli, shiitake mushrooms, and even tofu). She loves these and eats every bit of the food on her plate and has maintained her weight through all of this.
Thank You for all that you do to provide raw food as an affordable and accessible option to those in need. Thank You for giving my little girl pep in her step again, as we say in our house \"high paw to you\" that is a furry child high five.
