Nutrition and Benefits

• This food is a good source of Protein, Thiamin, Vitamin B6, Pantothenic Acid, Phosphorus, and Copper, and a very good source of Taurine, Riboflavin, Niacin, Vitamin B12, Iron and Selenium.
• Taurine is found in most animal proteins, but the highest concentration is in the brain and heart. Taurine supports brain, eye, and heart function, and helps regulate the immune system.
• Cooking and processing food will reduce the taurine content.
• A large amount of threonine can also be found in the heart, which controls protein and enzyme activity, helping to maintain proper balance of proteins in the body.

Helpful Tips and Reminders

• 🐕 Most dogs favor red meat best so this product typically works well with dogs of all sizes.
• 🐈 Some cats will eat red meats, but others simply will not tolerate it. If you chose this product for your cat, start with a small amount, and introduce slowly.
➡️ Cats cannot produce taurine, like Dogs can. This means that taurine is essential for felines and taurine needs added in the diet as the body cannot manufacture taurine.
• Heart can be added to high bone content foods to decrease the bone ratio.

    Tons of heart!

By Logan on January 23, 2022

With how it's cut it is also very easy to handle for prep days. Love it!

    That's a lot of heart!

By Angela M on October 8, 2021

5 lbs is a lot. Dark red, dense. Some large chunks/areas of fat that we subdivide for balance or use to make a little fatty broth to encourage water consumption. Some cats liked, some didn't. Finding the right size bite for each was helpful. And not the same, of course. Newly rescued, newly neutered semi-feral rescue boy likes larger treat bites, and gets me friend points.

Good quality product - beef heart chunks

By Wendy on June 7, 2020

Very happy with the quality of this product. Happy to see that it is in easier to handle chunks but I'd love to see them cut more uniformly. Many of the pieces are mostly fat. Will definitely buy these again.

Response from Hare Today:
Thank you for your response. Referencing our Beef Heart product description, this product is cut into cubes/strips. These are cut frozen for food and employee safety which is why piece sizes will vary. Our goal is to cut into 2" x 2" x 2" cubes/strips. Heart does contain fat on the outer pieces: meat/fat ratio: 80/20.

    Beef Heart is Excellent Option

By Teresa on April 24, 2020

The part is an excellent option for red meat and an organ meat. The local supermarket only offers chicken hearts, so this is definitely a great selection.

    A staple

By Sarah on April 9, 2018

Beef heart is a cheaper red meat, so we include a fair amount of it. The dogs like it and it's readily available. I would prefer whole hearts or less uniform chunks personally as some of these end up with more muscle than others, but it's still a good product and one I buy regularly.

    Wow so much Heart

By Sandra on July 21, 2017

I didn't even notice the 5lbs and when I pulled out the bag I was excited at how much there was and my cat when right for it once thawed. Fresh as always and packaged perfectly.

Too much fat in latest order

By Victor on April 23, 2017

I have ordered hearts several times and they were an excellent quality and my dog eat it with no problems. Previously heart packages contained a little bit fat (10%) and a lot of muscle tissue the last time (November 2016) I received opposite: a few muscles and a lot of epicardial and pericardial fat (up to 50%). I tried to give it to my dog but he got a diarrhea, so I had to get rid of all fat.

Response: Typically heart has about 20% fat which is what product description states. Raw fat is typically not an issue but feed in moderation. Also fat makes great food for birds [suet].

    Great rotation meal for cats

By Sam on March 24, 2017

My experience with this product is that it is an easily fed, quality meal for younger cats (0 - 12 years old), with some cats still do well eating this up to the end. I am grateful to see that these are not feedlot beef! Suppose I should have guessed this years ago, considering how well they were accepted by the cats. Perfect to serve after a furry/feathery & bony meal. Best loved were the occasional packages with whole smaller hearts. High quality, have not seen anything comparable anywhere else over the years, even from a fancy butcher's. Good budget option.

    Perfect for meaty muscle meal

By Kelly on November 27, 2016

Perfect option for a muscle meat meal. Lots of great meat in the bag and my dogs love them! Also easy to thaw and separate into portion sizes for meals. Love these, and will always be a part of their diet!

    Chunks for kitties!

By Amanda on September 7, 2016

Right now these are the only chunks of food I can get them to eat right now. They love these beef hearts!

    Cat Food

By Joseph on August 5, 2016

These hearts come in pre-cut cubes. They are very easy to portion out into meal sized chunks for cats. After heating to prey temperature in a ziplock bags submerged in hot water, cats will love this.

    Good Product

By Alex on November 30, 2015

My Belgian Malinois always chooses Beef Heart first, no matter what else I put in her bowl! These are decent size pieces and I feed them once or twice a week. A good amount of fat on them, which I am always thankful for with my active dog (if i feed her lean meats she gets skinny or needs to eat a ton of food, neither of which I want).

    How nice!

By karen poggi on November 13, 2015

I've always purchased whole beef hearts and don't mind the prep but HOW NICE it is to get it in chunks. Quick to thaw and easy to feed as is, a nice occupier (frozen or thawed) or if you choose to cut into smaller pieces. The best thing is there's no additional charge for this convenience. Thank you so much for, not only offering so many selections but also helping to keep whole food feeding affordable! P.S. do you sell beef tongue or would you consider it? i'm always looking for that.

By Cynthia on July 10, 2014

Very impressed with this product! You can tell how fresh the muscle is and my dog went nuts over it! Very easy to cut and portion out into individual serving baggies.

By Raven on April 19, 2014

This gets my golden's stamp of approval! He loved the beef heart, and licked his eating mat after each serving. I will definitely buy this again.

By Lea on April 19, 2014

I got the beef heart and love how they are cut and packaged. They are mostly about the same size weighing about a pound each. They are frozen in to cubes and sometimes fall in to smaller peaces once thawed. My dog loves this part of her diet.

By Anne on May 25, 2013

my dogs really enjoy your beef heart and i love how easy it is. this is quickly becoming one of the staples of my dogs' diet. thank you for getting it back in stock so quickly!

By Matthew on May 16, 2013

Great quality and cheaper than all my other suppliers, enough to feed them twice a week for two weeks plus per bag. I like feeding these partially frozen, keeps blood mess cleanup to a minimum and really makes him work for it. Keeps my shep from swallowing them whole like all his other meals :)

By Kristina on April 24, 2012

WOW! you do not realize HOW much is in a 5 or 3lb bag! amazing! Quality is superb and so is customer service! When feeding raw/whole-prey one must always make sure they include organ meat like some hearts and liver. Otherwise you will lack nutrition. Tracy makes this so easy to balance out, it takes the guesswork out of the game. Buy from hare today and you will be so happy you did! it is almost an addiction for my babies and even for me, it is so fun looking at all the variety and buying!

By Dayna on February 8, 2012

Very easy to cut into 8 oz portions. Quality definitely looks better than the ones I received from my local butcher. Chunks vary in sizes, probably from 6 oz to almost 2 lbs, but better than dealiing with a whole heart.

By Tiffany on August 17, 2009

I received my beef heart and it was very easy to prepare for my two dogs' meals. Since it was already cut into strips, it made cutting their serving sizes VERY easy. I cut it unthawed and had no problem at all. The pups seem to love it and it looked like great, high quality meat. Almost steak like! Thanks!

By Mary on November 21, 2008

I just received an order of chicken necks from Tracy. I live in central FL. They came completely frozen solid! Got here in 3 days! They are the biggest necks I have ever seen! My dogs loved them!

Thanks for such great service!

Not sure how healthy these are, as source isn't very detailed, but all my cats like these well enough. The new way they are being packaged is whole med-small hearts, which is a much bigger hit with the cats for some reason. The issue I usually have is the blood bath these create, so if they continue to be shipped in med-sm whole hearts, then that problem is also solved. lol I'm guessing that's not possible, year-round, but they are still a very inexpensive meat that all 6 cats, of varying ages and backgrounds, will eat without complaint.
